Title: The evolution of coral companions
Corals are famous for their beauty, but did you know their color comes from their little algal Corals are famous for their beauty, but did you know that one coral is actually many creatures living in a colony? Their striking color comes from algal partnerships that evolved to an incredible complexity that we’re still trying to understand today. Join us as we discuss the evolution of corals and their microbial friendships!
Dr. Gonzalez-Pech is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of South Florida. He is a computational biologist studying genome evolution of coral symbionts and their relatives, focusing on how symbiosis drives diversification. He completed his BSc in Biology at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, his MSc in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München, and his PhD at the University of Queensland.
